Anyone for Tetris?
Okay, so now that I’ve been at the new job for a while, I can say with confidence that it really blows. Remember high school math class? Yeah, it’s sorta like that. Lots of juggling numbers and statistics – you know, the things that I hate doing. What we’re trying to do is fix the problems that exist with the way routing is set up for Double Agents (in-home computer techs), Special Agents (in-office computer techs), and Geek Squad Installers (home theater installers). Basically we map out all the service markets and stores, take a look at a metric crapton of statistics – namely headcounts, availability, schedules, and a ton of budgeting data – for a given area, and try to modify things to fix the problems. It’s called “Project Tetris” because when you move things around in scheduling it looks kind of like a game of Tetris. It’s kind of ironic though, because the dispatch portion of the job, which is where we’d be doing the schedule shifting, got outsourced to another team. Anyway, like I said, it really blows. Even if I knew what I was doing, I have a feeling I’d still hate it.
So… I’ve been applying like crazy for other jobs, both inside and (preferably) outside the company. I had an interview at the Minneapolis GSS (the original Geek Squad store) yesterday, but I’m thinking I didn’t get the job. I would really like to get a job at a car dealership or shop to get a start in the automotive industry, but it’s not looking too good because no one seems to have any positions available.
On the plus side, I finally got all my application stuff filled out and sent in for WyoTech’s West Sacramento campus, so I’m just waiting for the acceptance letter. If all goes well, I’ll be heading out there in June and specializing in their Street Rod and Custom Fabrication program.
I guess that’s about it for now. Wish me luck on all this stuff!
