Well folks, it’s that time again. The end of DST, much less commonly known as “the big Earth spin-back”. I realized that daylight savings time really isn’t some dumb thing that someone invented and we continue for no reason. It is actually a strange phenomenon where, in the Fall, the planet suddenly and inexplicably halts, rotates backwards 15 degrees, then resumes its natural rotation. Then in the Spring, it suddenly accelerates rotation to the speed of light until it catches back up to where it was before, then again resumes normal rotation. I figured out that the reason it always does it at 2 a.m. is because it assumes everyone is sleeping at that time so no one will fall down from the sudden movement. I still haven’t figured out why the earth decides to do this ritual every year, but I’m just going to go ahead and assume it has something to do with global warming.

So today at work I was sitting at my desk quietly writing a program when <bling> I got an IM from one of our India team members. First thing he says is, “HI THERE,” at which moment I knew this was gonna be one of those fun conversations with someone who doesn’t know what the caps lock key does. And these are the people who “fix” your computer. So I proceed to carry on a short conversation with him which turns out to be completely worthless anyway. [Read more →]
